On Friday, September 8, educators and students around the globe will be celebrating International Literacy Day. Here at CEC, we don’t want to miss the chance to draw attention to the magic and power of reading, so this week’s FREE tool is a literacy tip and table of literacy resources designed for teachers of students with intellectual disability. The table comes from the TEACHING Exceptional Children article “10 Research-Based Tips for Enhancing Literacy Instruction for Students With Intellectual Disability,” which offers tips to help teachers envision, plan, and implement meaningful reading instruction for this population of students. Want to know more? As an added bonus, CEC publications manager Lorraine Sobson speaks with article co-author Christopher J. Lemons to delve deeper into this topic in the Research2Practice podcast, “New Heights in Literacy Instruction for Students With Intellectual Disability.” CEC’s Tool of the Week is a free resource designed to support you in your special education practice. Subscribe and it’ll be automatically delivered to your inbox! Get your Tool of the Week.
