It’s that time of year for rising seniors to start researching colleges, so this week’s FREE tool is a Disability Service Research Chart devised to help students take the lead in gathering information about disability services at prospective colleges and universities. Transition to college can be overwhelming, especially for students with disabilities who must adapt to new laws and expectations regarding accommodations. This chart will help students organize their thoughts before talking to college representatives, will remind them of what to ask during interviews, and allow them to record information for easy reference.
The chart comes from CEC’s 7 Steps to Success, a one-of-a-kind transition book that divides what teachers and students need to know about transitioning to college into seven manageable steps. Chapters cover the laws governing college accommodations, personal skills, college survival skills, how to request and manage accommodations, and how to research and pick the right school.
