Finding Friends in Your Community

Plan, plan, plan! That’s the ticket to an effective transition to post-school where youths have the chance to become involved members of their communities. The best transition plans are masterworks of collaboration that connect students to the community resources they need after high school. But how to find and vet these community resources? This week’s FREE tool is a handy community mapping survey that will help school professionals identify and collect data regarding community organizations, schools, and employers that might be useful for transitioning youth. The tool comes from “Building Alliances: A How-to Manual to Support Transitioning Youth,” a CEC bestseller packed with tips and resources for building and leading a collaborative transition team. CEC’s Tool of the Week is a free resource designed to support you in your special education practice. Subscribe and it’ll be automatically delivered to your inbox!  Get your Tool of the Week.
