Stepping up for ELLs

P6120_English_Language_LearnersEnglish Language Learners (ELLs) are the fastest-growing segment of our student population, so teachers need information and tools to help meet the needs of these diverse students. That’s why this week’s FREE tool is a table listing effective literacy instruction and interventions for ELLs K–3. With proper Tier I instruction, you can ward off many problems before they start. But interventions are sometimes also necessary, so the table includes Tier II interventions for those learners who still struggle. The table comes from the CEC book, “English Language Learners: Differentiating Between Language Acquisition and Learning Disabilities.” This unique guide will help you understand the unique characteristics of learning in a second or third language so you can best support your students.
